How TimeSlice has helped
Here's how some people have answered that question from the
TimeSlice
questionnaire.
I am an artist, a coach (for artists and small businesses) and a
public relations person. . . and I am president of a local arts
council. Oh, and I write a column on marketing knitwear. I need to
track my time not only for billing, but for management and planning.
TimeSlice keep sit simple, is right there, and runs seamlessly behind
whatever other applications I am using. I love it. And the price is
right. Molly Gordon
I'm a freelance writer and magazine editor who works with
multiple clients, doing various kinds of projects and being paid in
different ways (hourly or flat fee). I use TimeSlice to determine how
much to bill hourly clients and to see how much time I'm spending on
flat-fee projects in order to figure out whether I'm getting paid
enough. In at least three instances I've been able to ask for and get
more money for regular flat-fee projects because I could summarize
(thanks to my TimeSlice info) precisely how long each issue of a
publication took to do and thus how much the project was truly worth.
If I'm working for several clients at a time, TimeSlice makes it easy
to keep multiple windows on the desktop and to pause one, start
another, when I take a job-related call or otherwise shift gears.
TimeSlice has given me a much better idea of how I spend my time as a
freelance! Mary C. Weaver
Track time for billing legal services to private and court
appointed clients. The degree of accuracy in our TimeSlice records has
provided a degree ofconfidence in our billing that is unriveled by
any other program availiableon the market. We have never been
questioned as to the accuracy of our records or questioned on what
activities we spent time on. Stuart D. Crespin
I use TimeSlice to keep track of billable hours in my recording
studio. It hasall the features I need, and all the bases are covered
when it comes to theinformation I need to know. Thanks for a great
product!! Robert Lewis
I work as a consultant on several projects simultaineously. I
like the ease of use and simple interface. Since I work from home
often interrupt my work to do other things and I make extensive use
of the pause feature. I leave the computer and Timeslice on all day
and start and stop projects as I work on them. For billing, I mark
the records for each project and print them seperately. I then
attatch them to a manual invoice with line items for each project.
Jorg Lorscheider
I am a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. I usually bill
by the hour or on a per project basis. Time slice allows me to keep
track of how much time I'm REALLY spending on a project with time and
expenses. I can now print out my timecard and present it to my client
with the invoice. Before Timeslice I would keep an inaccurate track
of my time on paper and I usually erred in favor of the client,
depriving myself of money that was due to me. Susan L. Ruff
I am a free-lance marketing writer with several corporate
clients, and I used Timetracker until recently upgrading to
TimeSlice. Its helped me by making it very easy to keep track of time
and calculations. At billing time each month, I just print out the
time records and attach them to my invoices. Tom Stacey
I am a software developer (Macintosh Software Developer). I work
mostly on a contract basis and TimeSlice is invaluable in keeping
track of time spent on different projects for me. The detailed views
and reports that I can customize is a "God Send". Some of my clients
require a lot of detail of what I work on and others just report on
the time spent. The customization features are Great. You can
customize each job(file) and it stays with that job(file). I like
this. This is a great product. It has come along way in the last year.

I use it to keep track of intermittent calls visits etc. by patients
and employers that often go uncharged. I import the result into a
FileMaker Pro data base for invoicing etc. Because it is a relatively
small application and remains in the background,I can keep it running
all the time and therefore access it easily for casual consultations.
Jon Russell
I use it for hourly tracking of charges/billing for my consulting
work. It has really been a tremendous help to me.In the past, I know
I lost billable time, but TimeSlice makes it easy for me to capture
it all. David L. Zwang
I'm a consulting engineer. I use it simply to keep track of billing
hours. I first used timetracker when I started in 9/94. It does what
I need. Shelton Ehrlich
I've just recently started to do contract work. TimeSlice has helped
me keep track of the time I spend on each contract and how I allocate
my time within a contract. This gives me better ground on which to
determine how much I should be charging for my time. Alexander

I use TS to provide detailed activity report by customer, project and
fee with my invoice for services each month. My client finds this
method of reporting excellent!! I credit TS with not having a single
reportraise questions. Outstanding software that I can't live
without. Don S. Manuel
I track time spent working for different clients who are charged an
hourly rate. I believe my billing is more accurate because the
TimeSlice window and its icons are a constant reminder to record all
the time I spend working (and I don't have to search my desk for that
tally sheet I used to use). Bonnie Briscoe
I use it for all client work. The work tends to get assembled bit by
bit over time and it helps to recall how much time and money it took
to do the job. I tend to forget what I did and don't bill for it. I
also lose track of time when I am working on a job. I especially like
the area where you fill in the job description. When the client tries
to bag on paying, I just print out my very long and detailed work
description along with the time it took to get the job done and they
pay up right away realizing that I am on top of things. Dave

I am owner of PIXEL nv, a copy service near Brussels (Belgium).I use
TS to track time spent on layout jobs (PageMaker, Freehand,
PhotoShop). Before TS, I really had no idea how much time I really
spent on them, because customers, phone calls and co-workers kept
interrupting me. A 20 minute job sometimes takes me 2 hours to
finish.TS allowed me to learn what I should charge my customers.Using
TS I also discovered that my layout jobs generate a lot more turnover
than I realized. Jan Wagemans
Timeslice has allowed me to accurately account for the time it takes
to complete a particular job. Although I may not charge exclusively
what timeslice sums up, it getive me an idea of what time it takes to
complete a job and make it worth everybody's time. Paul

I do consulting work for business entities and individuals interested
in conducting commercial transactions with Russia and the NIS.
TimeSlice has helped me be better organized and it has improved my
time billing function. It has helped me promote a more solid
professional image. Svetlana Uengal
I use TimeSlice in my daily work as a computer consultant. By using
it I can concentrate on my work. I donĂt have to check the
watch all the time and get a very precise timing. And it's also very
easy keep track of the costs and avoid overstepping the budget.
Jan Lowenberg
A client demanded better time tracking from me so I bought a copy. It
has fit the bill very nicely, especially the filemaker pro add-on.

The Centre for Interactive Multimedia has a team of about 15
programmers and support personnel working on a cost recovery basis to
develop multimedia materials for a range of clients. The Centre uses
TimeSlice as a means of tracking time from the programming and
support staff, and allowing weekly funds transfers to cover the cost
of each of the tasks on which the individual has worked during the
past period. Prior to using TimeSlice, the Centre used a form of
written diary to transfer the required project/task information to
the accounting section. This process was seen as much more
time-consuming and onerous by staff than the current system. In
addition, the level of detail in the information transmitted was very
much less than it now is. John Kumm
I use it as my time-clock. It helps me by giving my clients an exact
accounting of my hours; it has the authority of reality. It also
makes it easy for me to remember what I was doing for the client and
when. Michael Sattler
I'm tracking how much time I'm spending on individual projects for
clients. Previously I hadn't a clue when confronted with "Gee, how
long did this take you?" Now, I'm finding after using TimeSlice, that
I'm spending a lot more time on a project than I was really aware.
So, TimeSlice is helping me be more aware. With this new awareness, I
find I'm more sensetive to problem areas that may be time-consuming
and consequently to the rate I charge. Bottom line, TimeSlice is
helping me be more aware of that old universal quantity, time, and
that I have less of it than I believed, so now I value it more than I
had before. jason schwager
I use it to track all of my design billing time and to account for
all the time spent on jobs by others in my employ. I find it very
helpful in itemizing each type of work performed for each aspect of
every project. Mike Sherwood
In my independent consulting practice it is my right arm. I track
client hours for multiple clients. At month's end I export data to
the FileMaker template, print out some summaries by project and
category, and use these to support my invoices. I've also started
working with a 4 person partnership. We each use TS to monitor our
time on the project. They send their export files to me via email, I
import them a FM template, and generate project reports and status.
Neat, easy - no fuss no muss. Doug Gentry
I am a graphic designer and I like that it keeps track of time and
budgeting. It is a good product, simple to use, and it does what I
want it to do. I like the fact that you can set the programs that it
tracks. Eliza Drummond
It helps to track my time I work for the company. I like the feature
that I easy can generat time records later. So I can track my time
when I am on the road. I prefer Time Slice, not Time Tracker because
of the possibility to import project lists. I have my time slice
document in the startup and shutdown items of my mac. When I switch
on my mac in the morning I start a time record. I typical work the
whole day on one project, so my coleques to, too. So after have
started my time record, I close Time Slice, not to have to much
background load on the computer. Before the mac shuts down in the
evening. It starts up my time slice document again, and I can ajust
paused time and end time. At the end of the month I export the time
records and generat a report with file maker based on your filemaker
program. I have it modified a little du e to our needs. Joachim

I'm an independent film & video writer & director. I use
TimeSlice to help me figure out exactly how I spend my time on jobs
so that future bidding is more accurate. TimeSlice has been VERY
important in helping me organize my business. Susan Branch

i am a consultant w/several different clients. i work at home and
find myself jumping around from client to client. w/timeslice i use
several different open windows and keep very accurate records of my
time spent on each client. changing the billing for different tasks
is very easy. i love the ability w/in a record to break out billing
for different jobs being done for the same client. sometimes clients
want to know what time it takes to complete an assignment. the time
slice record is fab for this. i also hire high school kids to do
different jobs for me and they keep their own time via time slice.
they love watching the time and $ increment!! and i love not having
to watch their time. time-recordkeeping is not the pain it used to
be. what could be easier than clicking time on and clicking time off.
i love it. i am also making more money by keeping "real" records
rather than by just "remembering" how much time i spent doing
something. i always underestimated. not any more. e katherine
